Purpose of the Course

The overall objective of WED 504 is the application of multimedia technologies into Workforce Education and Development delivery systems.

General Objectives

Course participants will design, develop, edit and deliver interactive multimedia instructional training products.  Course participants will work as a team in the development of the final multimedia products.

    Specific Objectives -- Upon completion of this course, the student will be able to:

  1. Define basic terminology associated with multimedia courseware development.
  2. Demonstrate the use of basic principles of screen design.
  3. Demonstrate an understanding of the use of custom programming or scripting to create interactive courseware applications.
  4. Demonstrate skills in creating linear and non-linear hyper documents with hyperlinks and hotwords.
  5. Demonstrate skills in the use of graphics in multimedia applications.
  6. Demonstrate skills in the use of text in multimedia applications.
  7. Demonstrate skills in the use of on-screen buttons and other events triggers in multimedia applications.
  8. Demonstrate skills in the use of video and sound in multimedia applications.
  9. Demonstrate the procedures for packaging a multimedia application for distribution via the Internet, Corporate Intranet, and CD-ROM.
  10. Provide evidence of his/her knowledge by being conversant about recent articles reviews and current events related to the development and use of multimedia.

This course is to be taken in conjunction with WED 503, Multimedia Asset Development for Workforce Education.

Points will be awarded based upon the following grading scale:

   

500    -    450    =    A

451    -    401    =    B

402    -    352    =    C

353    -    303    =    D

Below     302    =    F

Policies and Standards

Special Needs Statement: Students requiring classroom accommodations or modifications because of a documented disability should discuss this need with the professor at the beginning of the semester.

Assignments are to be completed on the dates specified by your instructor. One letter grade is deducted for assignments turned in late out of respect for the majority of students who submit work on time. An incomplete (INC) grade at the end of the course is not a student option--it is given only at the discretion of the instructor.

This course will be supplemented with print and web-based instructional materials.  Consequently, this course requires that students participate in web-based activities, discussion and lab on a regular basis.
